At the moment, yes.

Quick question to anyone who sells on eBay what do you do about your good til cancelled made to order items? Do you list you have 5 in stock so you dont lose the listing fee for the month or do you keep it at 1 then relist if someone buys? I am trying to judge what would be the best bet all round.

Personally, I don't hold with multiple listings for items you do not actually have in stock. Customers can be pretty unforgiving if they feel you have been dishonest. If your listing says you have 5 in stock, but then you have to tell your buyer that actually you don't have any ready for despatch, and they will have to wait up to three weeks for an item to be made and assayed, you could find your reputation trashed with negative feedback.

Besides, the whole point is that Bijoux MBee items are not mass produced. Because they are hand-crafted, each piece is unique, and we can be flexible with colours, components and design (e.g. if a customer says "I like that blue one, but can I have it in pink?" the answer is invariably "Yes".). "I have 5 in stock" doesn't sit well with "these items are hand-crafted to order".

My advice would be to keep your listing costs to a minimum... make the title work, so you don't need a subtitle; create your own html template etc... and list single items, which you can then relist for coppers when you make a sale.

Hi Maggi,

Good point I never really thought about it that way. I will work on a good title and then keep the listing fees to the minimum, I have worked on an eye-catching listing which should do the pieces justice. Just need to tackle the website now but thanks to zencart its alot easier!

Thanks for your advice

Hi lkweddings,
Welcome to the forum,
I must admit I used to put 5 in stock when putting bijoux on ebay, then after a couple of slapped wrists about other products, I thought this is silly, I have not got any stock and they are hand-made which as Maggi says makes each one unique, so now on the website (don't bother much with ebay at the moment) I put 1 in the quantity box and relist as necessary,

good luck with your business
cheers
:porky:

Thanks Porky I will stick with the 1 for the time being. There is so much stuff to add I think I will be here for ages getting it all ready. I have the ebay listings to create and the website. I think I will get the website ready before ebay as this is where I will make most of my profit as we all know ebay is expensive!

This is a popular misconception. Yes, you have to pay listing fees and final value fees that you don't pay when selling via your own website: but where else would you get that level of traffic and exposure at that price?

With a little work, listing fees can be kept to a minimum, and you then have a relatively inexpensive tool to drive traffic to your website.
